Egypt's wheat procurement system is operating smoothly for the 2025 season, with strong farmer participation pushing total deliveries up 16 per cent year-on-year, the Cabinet said in a statement on Tuesday. The government dismissed recent reports claiming that collection centres were shutting early or that the season had fallen short of targets due to farmer reluctance. Wheat deliveries have reached 3.91 million tons so far, compared to 3.38 million tons over the same period last year — an increase of 530,000 tons, the statement read. The Cabinet attributed the record supply to a series of state-backed incentives, including the early announcement of procurement prices before the planting season and a higher purchase price of 2,200 Egyptian pounds per ardab (150 kg), exceeding the cost of imported wheat. Farmers are also being paid within 48 hours of delivery, a policy the Cabinet says has contributed to the high turnout. The 2025 wheat procurement season remains on track to conclude on August 15, with collection centers across the country operating normally and no closures reported. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
