Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib held a series of high-level meetings on Monday with major Chinese companies to promote investment opportunities in Egypt, as per a Cabinet statement. On the sidelines of the Egypt-China Business Forum in Beijing, discussions highlighted Egypt's investment potential across key sectors, including renewable energy, water desalination, tyre manufacturing, textiles, and agricultural technology. El-Khatib met with Energy China executives to discuss Egypt's green investment drive and plans to become a regional hub for sustainable energy, with incentives for foreign investors and job creation. He also met with representatives from Wanda Boto and Tercel Tires to discuss opportunities as part of the Egypt's efforts to localise tyre manufacture and attract both domestic and foreign investment. In a meeting with SEPCOIII, a Chinese water desalination firm, El-Khatib discussed Egypt's national strategy to expand desalinated water production through the establishment of new plants and the upgrading of existing ones. El-Khatib emphasised Egypt's focus on attracting investment in the desalination sector to boost capacity and localise manufacturing. Egypt is also committed to knowledge exchange with global industry leaders. A joint meeting was also held with several textile companies, including Sumac, where El-Khatib highlighted Egypt's competitive advantages in the sector—such as skilled labour, premium cotton, a large consumer base, and access to global markets via trade agreements. Additionally, he met with representatives of Aladdin Group, a Chinese agricultural investment company specialising in greenhouse technologies. El-Khatib reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting investors and emphasised the importance of the agricultural sector in meeting local demand and boosting exports.
