China's total retail sales of consumer goods reached 4,132.6 billion yuan in May 2025, rising by 6.4 per cent year on year, 1.3 percentage points faster than the previous month, and up 0.93 per cent month on month. By region, urban retail sales reached 3,605.7 billion yuan, up 6.5 per cent year on year, while rural retail sales hit 526.9 billion yuan, marking a 5.4 per cent increase, according to official data released on Monday. Online retail sales reached 6,040.2 billion yuan, up 8.5 per cent.
