Egypt's Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy met Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission Annika Eriksgard to discuss the structural reform measures proposed by the European Commission concerning the economic component of the second phase of the "Macro-Financial Assistance and Budget Support" mechanism. This phase is expected to be funded by the European Commission with a total of €4 billion, to be disbursed in three tranches ending in December 2026. The meeting highlighted the ministry's collaborative efforts in social protection programmes targeting the most vulnerable families, including the conditional cash transfer programme Takaful and Karama, as per a Cabinet statement on Wednesday. Morsy emphasised the programme's flexibility, noting that it has supported 7.7 million families, with 4.7 million currently benefiting since inception, the statement added. The ministry also pays tuition fees for over 58,000 students from beneficiary families enrolled in public universities, underscoring the focus on education as a key investment in human capital.
