Egypt's c. bank outlines public services at branches
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 06 - 04 - 2025

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced on Sunday it is offering several key banking services to the public at its branches, including inquiries into accounts of deceased customers, damaged banknote exchange, complaint resolution, and donation deposit services.
In a statement, the CBE said heirs or authorised agents with a power of attorney explicitly permitting disclosure may request information about a deceased individual's bank accounts. Applicants must provide an inheritance certificate, a copy of the deceased's ID or death certificate, their own identification, proof of fee payment, and present original documents for verification.
The bank also said individuals can exchange worn or torn banknotes for new currency at CBE branches.
Bank customers—individuals or corporates—who are dissatisfied with their bank's handling of a complaint or have not received a response within 15 business days can escalate the issue to the CBE. Customers are required to complete a complaint form, available at the bank's headquarters or online at www.cbe.org.eg, and submit supporting documents, including the original complaint's reference number and identification.
Corporate customers must also submit a valid Commercial Register entry and authorisation documents, the statement said.
The CBE added it accepts public donations in Egyptian pounds and foreign currencies for the benefit of approved associations and national funds.
Most services are processed within 5 to 15 minutes, the central bank noted.
