Egypt's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib met with India's Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar to discuss enhancing bilateral relations in various fields, as per a statement from the ministry on Wednesday. El-Khatib stated that the meeting explored ways to enhance economic and trade relations between Egypt and India, reviewing the latest developments in trade exchange and joint investments, as stated in the release. Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of increasing bilateral trade, noting that trade volume between the two countries reached approximately $4.2 billion in 2024, according to the statement. The minister highlighted the significant role of Indian companies in the Egyptian economy, with 55 Indian firms investing across various sectors in Egypt, amounting to a total investment of around $3.75 billion. Both sides reiterated their commitment to enhancing investment and trade cooperation, citing the agreement from the 6th session of the Joint Trade Committee in New Delhi last September to boost trade volume to $12 billion in the coming years. The ministers expressed their shared aspiration to deepen the economic partnership between Egypt and India and expand avenues for cooperation to serve the strategic interests of both nations, the statement added.
