April 6 chief coordinator injured in Interior Ministry clashes
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 05 - 02 - 2012

The April 6 Youth Movement announced that its chief coordinator, Ahmed Maher, suffered a cracked skull early Sunday during clashes between protesters and security forces near the Interior Ministry that have left six people dead.
The prominent Egyptian activist group said on its Facebook page that Maher's condition has stabilized. The page quoted doctors at Qasr al-Aini Hospital as saying that Maher's injury had been stitched up, and that they will hold him until tomorrow.
The group said the injury was not the result of an assault, but that a metal or wooden object fell from the property tax authority building, which was torched during the clashes, and hit Maher's head.
Clashes between demonstrators and security forces near the ministry erupted after a march by angry football fans on Friday, in which they denounced deliberate security negligence during a football game disaster last Wednesday.
At least 71 people were killed in Port Said Stadium after a premier league match between Egypt's leading team, Ahly, and the host team, Masry.
The April 6 Youth Movement was one of the main organizations that called for protests against the Hosni Mubarak regime early last year. A mass protest on 25 January sparked a wave of demonstrations that culminated in Mubarak's resignation on 11 February.
In recent months, April 6 has been highly critical of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which assumed power after Mubarak. In July, SCAF accused the group of treason following a planned demonstration in front of the Defense Ministry.
