The newly formed People's Assembly honored those killed and injured during the 25 January revolution in a statement issued Wednesday. The legislators said the rights of the injured and martyrs' families, including fair and swift trials for the perpetrators, are their priority. “The revolution's Parliament will never leave the great Egyptian people through half of the way, but will step forward until it achieves a power transition from the military council to an elected civil authority, Parliament, a government and president with complete powers, and achieves freedom, dignity and social justice for the people,” read the statement signed by Speaker Saad al-Katatny. The statement followed three parliamentary sessions during which representatives discussed the rights of the injured and the families of those killed during clashes on Mohamed Mahmoud Street, outside the Maspero state TV building and outside the cabinet building in downtown Cairo. It also ordered the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate protester deaths since the beginning of the revolution. Deputy Speaker Ashraf Thabet will head the committee, which will include heads of other parliamentary committees expected to be chosen next week. It will also include Hussein Ibrahim, a Freedom and Justice Party representative, and independent members Mostafa Bakry, Amr Hamzawy and Hamdy al-Fakharany. Parliament rejected requests to include MPs Suzy Adly Nashed and Marian Malak, who are among the representatives appointed by the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. It also rejected MP Adel Ramzy Hanna's request to join the committee on the Maspero incidents because he is the lawyer for one of the suspects accused of killing protesters.
