CAIRO: The Union of the Youth of Maspero sent a message to the winners of the majority of seats of the Egyptian parliament in both the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Salafi al-Nour Party on their official Facebook page, questioning them about their approach towards Copts in Egypt. “Gentlemen of the majority in the parliament, we address you with all respect. Will you rule us according to law or will you deal with us as a minority and Christians and how will you deal with our women and how you will see their faces and their uncovered hair?” read the statement. “And how you will see our right to build houses of worship, open, and in which prayer? How you will deal with our right in the application of our personal legal status personal in marriage and inheritance? What are your views of the religious reference of the Constitution and laws in general and minority rights in particular,” the Union's message continued. Mina Thabet, a member of the Executive Bureau of the Union, said that this message comes in light of the first session of parliament, scheduled for January 23, in order to remind the parties that they must represent all Egyptians. He added that voters will not reelect them if they fail to achieve the goals of the revolution, reminding them that the revolution is the cause of the very formation of this parliament. Meanwhile, the Dutch Coptic Association announced that they would not be participating in celebrations on January 25, the first anniversary of the uprisings. “What we have seen during the past year was the restriction of freedoms by the Military and a deal with Islamists,” they said in a statement. The group stressed its solidarity with the families of Egyptians martyrs, including the martyrs of the Two Saints Church, the battle of camels, and the Maspero clashes.
