Prime Minister Essam Sharaf is scheduled to receive Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Cairo next Monday, on his first visit to Egypt since the outbreak of the revolution. The officials will discuss bilateral cooperation, economic and trade ties, political developments in the region and other strategic issues of interest to both countries. During the three-day visit, Erdogan will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising a number of ministers, officials and businessmen. The two prime ministers are expected to sign a package of agreements, memorandums of understanding and protocols relating to the promotion of relations between Egypt and Turkey. They will discuss mechanisms to encourage the private sector in both countries to establish joint projects and push for more Turkish investments in Egypt, especially in tourism and clothing manufacture. They will discuss giving a boost to the Turkish industrial zone in Ismailia and a sum of US$250 million to a Turkish textile enterprise that will be established in Damietta. The Egyptian-Turkish Business Council meeting will be held during the visit to discuss ways to develop trade and investment relations and inform investors and business owners about the opportunities in both countries. Turkish President Abdullah Gul visited Egypt in March, and Foreign Minister Ahmed Davutoglu also visited in April and July. Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr traveled to Turkey last month.
