The 6 April Youth movement issued a statement Friday in response to President Mubarak's Labor Day speech, saying the president has repeated the same slogans for the past 30 years. The only difference in this year's speech, according to the statement, is that the president issued threats against those who want to improve Egypt economically, socially and politically. From the point of view of the 6 April, Mubarak's remarks reflect the ruling National Democratic Party's fear of rising social and political movements, as well as the president's lack of concern for his own people, whom he should serve rather than threaten. In related news, the Qasr el-Nil Misdemeanors Court has decided to delay the trial of Ahmad Saad Abu Duma, a member of the 6 April movement accused of assaulting on-duty police and causing injury to two officers, as well as destroying state property and participating in an illegal protest on 3 May. Several members of the 6 April movement demonstrated in front of the courthouse during Duma's first session yesterday.
