Attorney General orders autopsy of Egyptian lynched in Lebanon
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 05 - 05 - 2010

Attorney General Abdel Maguid Mahmoud has ordered an autopsy on the body of Mohamed Selim Masallam, an Egyptian who was attacked and killed in the village of Katramaya, Lebanon on Saturday. The corpse has been transferred to the Zeinhum autopsy room to determine the cause of death.
Mahmoud issued a statement concerning the incident and said he will follow up investigations by the Lebanese authorities. He requested a copy of the investigation report to determine criminal responsibility. He also ordered an immediate investigation as soon as the body arrives.
The statement said that Masallem's mother, who is Lebanese, alleges that there were problems with her son's arrest and that the charges against him were fabricated. She intends to file a lawsuit demanding the arrest of the killers.
Mahmoud has also received a report revealing that the ministers of foreign affairs and internal security in Lebanon have taken measures against the officers involved in Mosallam's arrest, accusing them of misreading the situation and failing to provide full protection to the suspect, allowing him to fall into the hands of an angry crowd.
A prosecution team moved to Cairo Airport this morning after the corpse arrived late night yesterday. It was found that the Lebanese authorities have included a detailed report, prepared by a hospital in Lebanon, on Massalem's injuries. The deceased was subject to dragging and beating with a sharp implement, the report said.
Masallem's family started shouting in grief as soon as the body arrived, crying out slogans against the Lebanese government.
