A survey carried out by the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center shows that 68 percent of respondents would prefer to hold parliamentary elections by a system of “proportional representation.” The survey was conducted on a sample of 7862 citizens. According to the survey, 21 percent supported a system of “individual representation,” while 11 percent said they had no preference. “Proportional representation protects elections from people of influence,” said Emad Gad, political expert at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies. “It's a fair representation of all social strata.” For his part, political expert Diaa Rashwan said proportional representation encourages citizens to vote for a certain program and not an individual.
