Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis and Minister of Education Yousri al-Gamal will arrive in the Sudanese capital Khartoum tonight to inaugurate a power plant in Wau - a town in southern Sudan on the western bank of the Jur River - and to lay the foundation stone for a school compound. This comes among several Egyptian projects in Sudan, particularly in the South. Egypt's Ambassador to Sudan Afifi al-Sayed Abdel Wahab said these projects come within the framework of Egyptian aid to Southern Sudan to make the option of unity with the North attractive to the South. Egypt is one of the first countries to provide Southern Sudan with all capabilities, he pointed out.
A major clinic has recently been inaugurated in the city of Juba, as Egyptian doctors provide thousands of Sudanese with Egyptian medicines on a daily basis. In addition, preparations are underway to open new clinics in other Sudanese districts. Moreover, another school compound will be established in Juba to accommodate all pre-university levels of education. Egypt is currently building three new power stations at its own expense in Southern Sudan, the Egyptian ambassador said.
With regard to Cairo University's branch in Khartoum, Abdel Wahab said the university's new administrative building has been established in Khartoum and is currently in the final stage. An agreement was struck with the Sudanese government to distribute the five colleges affiliated to the branch in the cities of Port Sudan, Al-Fashir, Malcan and Al-Abyyad. In addition, a College of Higher Studies will be established in Khartoum and lessons are scheduled to begin soon.
