Some 20 ladies tried to stage a demonstration yesterday on the stairs of the Syndicate of Journalists in solidarity with Gaza and against the Israeli aggression. However, they were surrounded by dozens of central security members. The ladies chanted slogans showing support for Gaza and critiquing the Arab summits. Tightened security measures were put in place yesterday at Ramsis Square [downtown Cairo], as security forces were deployed in front of the square mosque backed by dozens of central security cars with hundreds of soldiers as well as policemen in plain clothes. The security forces were deployed far beyond the square itself to deal with a demonstration by the Muslim Brotherhood (MB). Meanwhile, some journalists, including Al-Masry Al-Youm editor and photographer, were beaten by central security forces while they were covering the MB protest. The journalists were chained at a microbus of the Ministry of Interior after they had their mobiles and cameras confiscated.
