Angry demonstrations continued yesterday in many Egyptian governorates. Thousands of Egyptians took to the street to express solidarity with the Palestinian people. They condemned the Arab role in facing this plight, calling for cutting relations with Israel and completely opening Rafah border crossing. In Kafr el-Sheikh, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group and some political forces and parties staged a mass rally attended by about 10,000 people in front of the Doctors Syndicate to support the Palestinians. In Sharkia governorate, more than 700 lawyers staged a protest in the city of Faqous. The protest was called by the MB and Al-Karama Party. The Bar Association in Dakahlia also staged a conference and protests in Solidarity with the Palestinian people and the Gaza Strip.
In Beheira governorate, some 20 protesters and 12 female students fainted following the fall of tear gas bombs in Dalangat Secondary School for Girls in an attempt by the police to disperse a pro-Gaza demonstration. At the official level, Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul-Gheit warned against the consequences of the continuing Palestinian split, adding: "If this division continues, we will see two Palestinian states."
In press statements yesterday, Abul-Gheit criticized the UN Security Council for not adopting a resolution to stop the Israeli attacks on Gaza. He also criticized the heated argument at the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers.
On the other hand, the number of Palestinian injured who have been transferred to Egyptian hospitals since the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has reached 102. As for the humanitarian aid to Gaza via Rafah border crossing, a Saudi 25-ton shipment, in addition to other Libyan, Russian and Norwegian cargos, reached Gaza.
