A massive explosion occurred early Wednesday in North Sinai's al-Arish, leaving seven soldiers with serious injuries, Al-Bawaba News reported. The blast targeted a security armored vehicle in the Mesaieed district of western al-Arish. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the operation. The vicinity of the explosion was surrounded with a cordon of police as bomb disposal officers and civil security forces were deployed to the scene to scan the area for other potential threats and evidence, while the injured were immediately transferred to a military hospital for treatment. Militants have carried out several terrorist attacks in the Sinai Peninsula since former president Mohamed Morsi's ouster in June 30, 2013. Scores of policemen and army personnel were killed and injured by Sinai's terrorist groups.
