An alleged Muslim Brotherhood assailant accidentally blew himself up early Friday after an IED went off in his face as he was manufacturing it in his home in Giza's Matarya district, Al Bawaba News reported. The explosion caused panic among residents of Matarya who immediately informed the police about the accident. Bomb disposal officers and civil defense personnel were deployed to the scene to scan the area for other potential threats. The bomber was transferred to the hospital for treatment as he was severely injured after the explosion. Since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, July 2013, thousands of IED blasts have caused numerous casualties among security personnel and civilians, particularly in the conflict-torn Sinai Peninsula.
