The U.S. Department of State alerted the U.S. citizens of the security situation in Egypt, in a statement by the American embassy in Cairo on Tuesday. The U.S. Embassy continues to closely monitor the security situation in Egypt. It urged U.S. citizens to be alert, exercise good judgment, and follow good security practices everywhere in the country. U.S. citizens should avoid traveling outside metropolitan Cairo, Alexandria, major tourist and resort areas. U.S. Embassy personnel are prohibited from traveling in the Sinai Peninsula outside the resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh or anywhere in Egypt's Western desert region.
