An explosion in the rebel-held city of Baiji in northern Iraq claimed the lives of at least 20 Iraqi soldiers, Al Arabiya News reported Wednesday. According to the broadcaster's preliminary information, the attack on Baiji was carried out by a suicide bomber. On August 14, the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist group attacked an area on the outskirts of Baiji using car bombs and clashed with members of the Iraqi Army and Shiite militias. ISIS is a radical Sunni group that has seized vast areas in Iraq and Syria. It aims to establish an Islamic caliphate on the occupied territories.
