Egypt and Russia stressed Sunday their intention to step up their cooperation, especially in the technical-military field, state media reported. The remarks came in a joint press conference held by the Egyptian Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Ossama Mounir Rabie and Russian Deputy Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov, at the command center of the naval forces in Alexandria, following the end of the Egyptian-Russian joint military exercises. The naval exercise, codenamed "Friendship Bridge 2015", is the first joint military exercise between the two countries. Since Abdel Fattah Al Sisi took office as president in May 2014. Fedotenkov described the joint naval exercise as a "historic leap forward" in the relations between the two countries. He asserted that the exercise was conducted in great accuracy and achieved its objectives.
