A misdemeanor court in Egypt sentenced Saturday 12 Muslim Brotherhood (MB) affiliates, including university students, to three years and a 50-thousand EGP fine over violence-related charges, Al-Bawaba News reported. The convicts were found guilty for staging protesting marches during which they chanted against police and military forces and sabotaged public and private properties, judicial sources said. Protesting is criminalized in Egypt according to a Protest Law issued by interim authorities following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi July 2013 amid mass street protests. A large number of MB elements, including heavyweights, were found guilty in violence- related crimes. On May 16, ousted president Morsi along with another 103 codefendants were sentenced to death over espionage and jailbreak charges.
