Cairo Police Academy witnessed Saturday strict security measures, hours before the court issues its sentence against ousted president Mohamed Morsi and 35 others in the espionage trial, who could be sentenced to death if convicted, Al Bawaba News reported. Morsi and 35 other co-defendants are charged with being part of a conspiring group to destabilize Egypt involving foreign powers, the Palestinian Islamist group, Hamas, Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
Morsi also faces a third trial for jailbreak during the 2011 uprising that toppled president Hosni Mubarak, alongside 130 others. Morsi, Egypt's first freely elected president, was ousted after only a year in office following protests in which millions took to the streets accusing him of monopolizing power.
