The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated Saturday that the U.S. led international coalition against Islamic State (IS) had killed 2,507 militants and civilians since the beginning of its military campaign in September 2014. SOHR revealed that 2, 269 IS militants had been killed by the coalition's airstrikes in Homs, Hama, Al Hasakah, Al Raqqa, Der-Ezzor, and Aleppo. "SOHR believes that the real number of IS fatalities is bigger than the one we give due to the absolute secrecy kept around casualties and to the difficulty of accessing many areas and villages that have witnessed violent clashes and bombardments", the observatory explained. It added that added that 105 militants from the Al Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front were killed in the western countryside of Aleppo and the northern countryside of Idlib. The observatory pointed out that 132 civilians including 42 children and 25 women were killed by the coalition's airstrikes in Al Hasakah, Der-Ezzor, Al Raqqa, Aleppo and Idlib.
