The Egyptian military counter-terrorism and special operations units killed early Tuesday three Takfiri militants in two separate areas close to North Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid and Al Arish cities, Youm7 reported. The security forces carried out pre-emptive raids against the militant strongholds in the border province that led to the arrest of 16 terror suspects, three of whom are thought to be affiliated with the Islamic State-linked Wilayet Sinai group, a security source said. The forces also destroyed a weapons' cache used by the Islamist militants in their attacks against state facilities and military personnel. The Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after they had claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel.
