Horoscopes:
Spirit of adventure
By Imhotep
For people born under the Cardinal Air sign of Libra (23 Sep-23 Oct) it is either gung-ho or no-go. Librans need things to be clear cut.
Ruled by Venus, the Planet of Love, Librans can be flirtatious. But their foolery is often checked by their instinctive commitment to fair play.
Imhotep forecasts May to be a month full of uncanny coincidences for Librans. June will be magical. Venus passes between Earth and Sun in June. The last time this astrological phenomenon occurred was in December 1882. Librans, Imhotep predicts, will be especially vulnerable to the eclipse's enchanting influences.
Life shall never be the same again. But, more about that next month. Imhotep knows that you've had your fill of flings, my dear Librans. May is the month to get serious. Shallow relationships will be replaced by deeper feelings for someone, or something, special. Enjoy the intensity of emotional energy welling up inside you towards the end of the month.
The sting of people born under the Fixed Water sign of Scorpio (24 Oct - 23 Nov) is only used in self-defence. Nothing hurts a Scorpion more than a betrayal of trust. And that's when they strike.
In May, Imhotep predicts that sparks will fly. Try, my dear Scorpions, to avoid Fire sign people, especially Leos. By June the storms will blow over.
Ruled by both Mars and Pluto, Scorpions are passionate lovers. They can be jealous and overbearing with the intensity of their passion, though. Scorpions are also just as flirtatious as Librans.
In May, however, Scorpions will be forced to focus their thoughts on a single goal. They must muster all their reputed forcefulness and willpower, control their ferocious anger, and rise above the mundane.
Scorpions are often quite fixed in their opinions, sometimes rigidly so. Towards the end of May, Scorpions will be advised to let go of their unbending attitudes.
Look within first, my dear Scorpions. Try to understand that we are all human, and that people are entitled to hold differing opinions. This means looking past our differences and celebrating our common humanity. We have obligations one to another.
These are the best of times for people born under the Mutual Fire sign of Sagittarius (24 Nov - 23 Dec). Sagittarians are on the move in May. And, they shall enjoy the newness of life afresh in June.
Rebelliousness against conventions comes easily to the Archers, as Sagittarians are sometimes called. Archers hate being constrained. They are born to be free.
One of Imhotep's all-time favourite Sagittarians was Margaret Mead, perhaps the world's most gifted anthropologist. She personified the Sagittarian quest for freedom and knowledge. She travelled to faraway places -- remote Pacific islands -- and lived among people whose culture was very different from hers.
Deep inside every Sagittarian, there is something of the Mead spirit. May provides an excellent opportunity for Sagittarians "to cherish the life of the world," as Mead so beautifully put it.
Sagittarians love to explore uncharted territory -- what Mead called "Unmapped Country". In the next two months Imhotep foresees plenty of opportunity for Archers to sample new lifestyles.
Like Mead, Sagittarians are hard workers. But only when work is fulfilling and meaningful. Mead wrote 44 books and more than 1,000 articles. Her Coming of Age in Samoa, a study of adolescent Samoan girls, and Growing Up in New Guinea helped people in the West learn about themselves through looking at human development in a cross-cultural perspective.
Mead's New Lives for Old attempted to document the remote islanders' exposure to "civilisation". Like Mead, many Sagittarians believe they can change the world. Mead refuted the notion that "primitive people" are like children. Sagittarians instinctively take the side of the underdog. They want to establish a more humane world. June, is a month, when Archers will be given a chance to work out their labour of love.
And, for those who mistakenly dismiss fun-loving Sagittarians as facetious and good- hearted idiots note that like Mead, they are "disarmingly friendly one minute and put you in your place the next."
