“Heroes of Resistance and War” is the name of an exhibition of original paraphernalia and mementos to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the 6 October, 1973 War at Beit Al Sinnari, Mai Samih reports. Inaugurated by the Head of the Projects Sector and Central Services of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Khaled Azab and the Head of the Communications Department of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Moneim Kato, it opened on 18 October and will go on till the end of October. Drawing on the collections of former ministers of defence Mohamed Abdel-Ghani Al-Gamasi, Mohamed Sadek and Mohamed Fawzi as well as that of Field Marshal Ahmed Badawi, it includes the flag that was hoisted in Sinai after the war and rare photos of President Gamal Abdel- Nasser with the commanders who established the Egyptian Armed Forces and of President Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat and his army commanders during the 1973 war. The Alexandria Opera House (Sayed Darwish Theatre) saw the opening ceremony of the 11 Alexandria International Song Festival in the presence of Alexandria Governor Major-General Tarek Mahdi, musician Hani Mehanna, head of the Creative Artists Association of Alexandria Ouf Hamam and actors Farouk Al-Fishawi, Amr Youssef and Emad Rashad. Honoured were Saudi singer Abadi Al-Gohar, Emirati singer Ahlam, Kuwaiti singer Nawal, Canadian singer Linda Tali. Egyptian singer Mohamed Al-Helw and Egyptian composer Hisham Nazih. The festival shield, granted to the name of the late media figure Wagdi Al-Hakim, was handed to his sister Nano Al-Hakim. At the reception celebrating South Korea's national day, on the other hand, Ambassador Young So Kim said, “I very much appreciate you coming here tonight to celebrate the foundation of the Korean nation on October 3rd in 2333 BC, which dates back 4,347 years, to when Egypt already had the Pyramids existing in Giza. I would like to take this opportunity to convey my heart-felt congratulations for the successful process of the roadmap and the inauguration of President Al-Sisi.” Ecuadorian Ambassador German Espinoza, celebrated the 194th Ecuadorian National Day in the presence of a galaxy of ambassadors such as Lebanese Ambassador Khaled Ziyada. The French Cultural Centre in Cairo, presided over by Jean-Luk Lavaud, held a farewell party for the head of the cultural activities department Latifa Fahmi. The Ambassador of Hungary Peter Kveck gave a reception to celebrate the 50th National Day of Hungary at his residence in Zamalek. Present were Minister of Health and Population Adel Adawi, Tajikistan Ambassador Khusrav Noziri, Greek Ambassador Chris Lazaris, businessman George Folopolis, former minister of International Cooperation Fayza Abul-Naga as well as numerous diplomats. The Egyptian scholar Tarek Heggi seized the opportunity of his being in Russia for a conference on political Islam to conduct an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24 October. For an hour and a half, Putin held forth on the US “sabotage” of the international system. The UN in Egypt celebrated UN Day (24 October, 1945) on 23 October at the Fish Garden in Zamalek. The event featured UN beneficiaries selling handicrafts and food and sharing their stories as they showcased UN-supported projects. It also featured musical performances by Wust Al-Balad and Zap Tharwat and a photo and video competition. Chairman of the Board of Directors of AFICS (Association of Former International Civil Servants) Ali Soliman congratulated the UN on the occasion and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting and strengthening the UN activities in Egypt not only through propagating UN ideals but also through direct contributions to development, youth employment and environmental preservation.
