Gedo hails Abou-Treika, Ahly for CAF glories The Pharaohs attacker hails the recent continental achievements of both Ahly and former teammate Abou-Treika
Egypt and Ahly striker Mohamed Nagi Gedo has hailed former teammate Mohamed Abou-Treika for winning the Africa-based player of the year title. Gedo, who plays for English Premier League side Hull City on loan, also heaped praise on Cairo giants Ahly for winning the CAF Club of the Year title. "Ahly is the best club in Africa. Abou-Treika is the best Africa-based player. Treika and Fathi are among Africa's team of the year. Ahly is above all," Gedo said via his twitter account late on Friday. Abou-Treika received the award on Thursday during the Glo-CAF awards ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, beating Ahly teammate Ahmed Fathi and Nigerian midfielder Sunday Mba to the title. Abou-Treika, who has just hung up his boots after Ahly's Club World Cup campaign back in December, claimed the title an unprecedented fourth time after previous wins in 2006, 2008 and 2012. Ahly also won the CAF Club of the Year title, beating off competition from Champions League finalists Orlando Pirates and Confederation Cup holders Sfaxien. Ahly have been favourites for the title after securing the Champions League at the expense of South Africa's Pirates, claiming a record-eighth trophy. Gedo joined Hull City on a six-month loan deal from Ahly in August last summer, but he made few appearances with the Tigers in the Premier League this season. The 29-year-old striker seems close to a return to his home team Ahly during the current winter transfer window.
