Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor was named as Africa's Glo-CAF player of the year on Tuesday. The Arsenal hit man was voted as the continent's best player during the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) annual awards ceremony held in Lagos, Nigeria. Ade shrugged competition off Ahli and Egypt playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika and Ghana midfielder Michael Essien in the vote which is decided by the coaches and captains of all African national teams. Inter-CAF Award During the same ceremony, Abou-Treika found his saving grace in being voted the best player plying his trade within the African continent. The 30-year-old came on top of a three-man shortlist, which included Ahli teammate Flavio Amado and Nigerian striker Stephen Worgu to win the award. Egyptian Awards Egypt coach Hassan Shehata was also announced as Africa's best tactician of the year. The Master, who guided Egypt to a second successive African Cup of Nations title in February 2008, was voted ahead of Ahli coach Manuel Jose and Cotonsport tactician Alain Ouombleon. Shehata's Egypt won the continent's best national side award, while Ahli were chosen as the African club of the year after winning a record sixth CAF Champions League title in November.
