On 3 December, the panel charged with amending Egypt's constitution passed a final draft of the charter to Egypt's interim president, Adly Mansour. The 2012 constitution, passed during Mohamed Morsi's presidency, was suspended after Morsi's ouster. Many non-Islamist actors had criticised the drafting process of the 2012 constitution for being exclusionary, although the final text passed a referendum in December 2012. The amended charter will be put to national referendum within a matter of weeks, although the exact date has yet to be announced.
