Libya sends back 360 Egyptians arriving with forged visas: State media Some 1.5 million Egyptians were working in Libya in 2010, this number has fallen following uprising against Muammar Gaddafi
Libya has deported 360 Egyptians who arrived on two flights with forged visas, state news agency Lana said on Sunday. The Egyptians landed at Misrata airport in central Libya and were sent back to Egypt on the same planes, the agency added, without giving any more details. Libya, facing turmoil two years after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi, has been trying to clamp down on a trade in forged visas for workers from Egypt or other neighbouring countries looking to come to the country. Libya is a main destination for Egyptian migrants seeking work opportunities abroad. According to a 2010 report by the International Organisation for Migration, some 1.5 million Egyptians had been working in the unrest-stricken country which has a population of 6.5 million people. The number of Egyptian expats in the country, however, fell sharply following the NATO-backed Libyan uprising in 2011/12, which saw the ouster and death of long-time Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/88034.aspx
