African Union delegation discusses Egypt with Turkish FM
Delegation led by former Mali president Alpha Omar Konare holds talks on situation in Egypt with Turkish foreign minister

An African Union delegation discussed the situation in Egypt with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Tuesday.
The delegation of wise men was led by former Mali president Alpha Omar Konare and the meeting took place in Ankara, said the Turkish foreign ministry.
The delegation was formed after Egypt was suspended from the regional group following the removal of president Mohamed Morsi.
The delegation gave Davutoglu detailed information about its two separate visits to Egypt and its meetings with Mohamed Morsi.
Davutoglu explained the Turkish position on events in Egypt and insisted he was keen to see a swift return to democracy.
Turkish-Egyptian relations have suffered in recent months, especially after Turkish Prime Minister Recep TayyipErdoğandescribed Morsi's removal as a coup and called for his reinstatement. Egypt's interim authorities rejected what they said was interfere in the country's internal affairs.
The delegation has already held talks about Egypt with officials from Qatar and the UAE.
The African Union's Peace and Security Council suspended Egypt's membership of the pan-African body following the ousting of Morsi, an automatic measure by the body following any military interruption of constitutional rule by a member state.
