Egypt's injury-prone Hegazy faces another lengthy spell out The Egyptian defender will be out of action for at least six months after rupturing a cruciate knee ligament, having suffered a similar injury last season
Egypt and Fiorentina defender Ahmed Hegazy is facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury, fuelling speculation over his future with the Italian Serie A side. The towering defender ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, having suffered the same injury last season. He will undergo surgery that will sideline him for at least six months. "Cross ligament again i can't believe," Hegazy wrote in his personal account on Twitter on Friday. The 22-year-old defender sustained the injury while on international duty during Egypt's friendly game against Uganda last month. Hegazy was also sidelined for more than five months after seriously injuring the same knee in November 2012. He returned to action in May and has featured in four games for the Pharaohs since then, including the friendly against Uganda. Hegazy is facing an uncertain future at the in-form Fiorentina, who left him out of their squad for the Europa League group stage.
