In this report, Ahram publishes photos of works by late Egyptian sculptor Abdel-Hady El-Weshahi, who passed away on Monday, aged 76. Locally and internationally esteemed as one of the most prominent sculptors and artists, his works adorn numerous museums in Egypt and the world. El-Weshahi was listed in Britain's Cambridge Encyclopaedia as the world's best sculptor in 2001 and was locally awarded the state's National Award for Art in 2012. The great artist passed away on Monday morning at the Qasr Al-Aini Hospital in Cairo where he was being treated for a serious illness, leaving behind a vast legacy of artwork. One of El-Weshahi's most famous works is his bronze statue of Taha Hussein, which stands three metres tall without its pedestal. His artwork was acquired by various cultural institutions, including Cairo's Museum of Modern Egyptian Art, Alexandria's Museum of Fine Arts, the Military Museum, and Al-Ahram institution's foyer gallery, among others. According to the Egyptian Fine Arts Sector website, visual artist and sculptor Abdel-Hady El-Weshahi was born in November 1936 in Daqahliya. He received his BA from the sculpture department at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1963 then proceeded to study at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, Spain. Below are pictures of some of his most remarkable works. Photos and captions were acquired from Egyptian artist Horeya El-Sayed, who was one of El-Weshahi's students. ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## ## http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/80521.aspx
