Protesters block railways in Tanta and Assiut
Maintenance workers block tracks in Tanta over pay and contracts, local residents do likewise in Assiut over fuel and bread shortages, train drivers strike planned for Wednesday

The Cairo-Alexandria railway was blocked in a protest by maintenance workers on Tuesday afternoon.
The workers at a state-run company in Tanta in the Nile Delta are demanding unpaid financial incentives and permanent contracts.
Local residents in Upper Egypt's Assiut blocked the Cairo-High Dam railway on Tuesday in a separate protest over fuel and bread shortages.
Train drivers will take part in a nationwide strike on Wednesday if the government fails to respond to their demands.
Drivers were to begin their strike on Monday but the action wasdelayed for two days after the government said it would meet their demands. The demands include additional bonuses, weekly holiday allowances and equality with Metro drivers.
Egyptian Railway Authority (ERA) head Hussein Zakaria announced plans to enlist army drivers to replace the strikers.
