Zamalek ponder replacement for coach Viera Coach of Zamalek Jorvan Vieira fails to return to Cairo after friendly tournament in UAE leading to speculation he will be replaced
Zamalek have announced they will take action against their Portuguese manager Jorvan Vieira if he fails to show up for work on Thursday. The 59-year-old, who took charge of the team last August on a two-season contract, didn't return to Cairo after a friendly tournament in the UAE last week. His absence sparked rumours he is considering leaving his post amid Egyptian football's uncertain future. “We are giving Viera until Thursday to return to the club before we lodge a complaint with FIFA,” Zamalek football committee head Hamada Emam was quoted as saying by Al-Ahram daily newspaper on Wednesday. According to Al-Ahram, the committee is in the process of choosing a successor to Viera, who would probably be an Egyptian. Viera's assistant Marco said the ‘'club board have no reason to panic” and the manager will return on Saturday to lead the team. The Egyptian Premier League, which has been frozen since last February because of the Port Said disaster, is due to resume on 2 February. However, security concerns remain as a verdict is expected in the Port Said trial on Saturday. More than 70 Ahly fans were killed after they were confronted by the home Masry supporters following the end of an ill-tempered Egyptian Premier League game last year.
