Handball: Egypt defeat Australia by 25-goal margin to close on second round Egypt defeat Australia 39-14 in the Handball World Championship to move closer to a place in the knockout phase
Egypt are on the verge of reaching the Handball World Championship second round after defeating Australia 39-14 in their final Group D game on Saturday. The Pharaohs will qualify for the knockout phase if Croatia defeat Algeria later in the day. If underdogs Algeria lose to favourites Croatia, they will be level on three points with Egypt, who will reach the second round virtue of a better goal difference. Egypt have failed to go beyond the group stage since 2003. Their best ever position was fourth-place finish in the 2001 edition in France.
