Israeli official denies Hapoel Tel Aviv interest in Egyptian goalkeeper The Israeli Prime Minister's spokesman to the Arab media says Hapoel Tel Aviv football club were never interested in signing Egyptian goalkeeper Al-Mahdi Soliman
Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv denied that they are interested in signing Egyptian goalkeeper Al-Mahdi Soliman, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's spokesman to the Arab media said on Saturday. “Hapoel Tel Aviv announced that they are not looking for any Egyptian players. I don't think this story came as a big surprise,” Ofir Gendelman tweeted in Arabic. Some local reports quoted Soliman, who plays for Egyptian Premier League club Petrojet, as saying that he was mulling an offer to join Hapoel Tel Aviv after his current deal expires at the end of the season. His alleged statement sparked widespread controversy, with some questioning whether the keeper really meant what he had said. Soliman was not immediately available for comment. No Egyptian Premier League player has ever played in Israel. Despite a peace treaty signed by the two countries in 1979, relations between Israel and Egypt have never been warm.
