Cameroonian striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will be sidelined for six weeks after undergoing knee surgery on Monday

Mainz Cameroonian striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will miss his country's crucial clash against Cape Verde in the second leg of the final round of next year's African Cup of Nations qualifiers for six weeks of rehabilitation therapy following an operation.
The 23-year-old striker underwent knee surgery on Monday after suffering a knee tendon tear during Mainz's 3-0 defeat by Shalke in the Bundesliga last week.
The injury came as bad news for Cameroon's new coach Jean-Paul Akono, who loses his striker before the Cape Verde clash scheduled between 12 and 14 October in Yaounde.
The Indomitable Lions are looking to overcome their surprising 2-0 defeat against Cape Verde in the first leg three weeks ago, to reach next year's finals in South Africa.
The four-time African champions risk missing the Nations Cup for the second time in a row as they failed the reach the previous edition in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea earlier this year.
