Thursday, 12 September Eighth Documentary Film Festival in El-Sawy Culturewheel at 6pm The Culturewheel along with Al-Jazeera bring the eighth edition in this endeavour that will run for three consecutive days at El-Sawy. 26 of July Street, Zamalek, Cairo Nashaaz in Rawabet Theatre at 7pm The thatrical group Haala puts on an Arabic language variety show of comedy, theatre, dance and music. 2 Hussein El-Meamar Street, off Mahmoud Bassiouni Street, beside the Townhouse Gallery, Downtown, Cairo Musical Comedy Night in El-Geneina Theatre at 8.30pm High on Body Fat, the Arab Idol duo who brought laughs with their covers of Western classics and pop songs in Egyptian Arabic, will take the stage with their covers along with original tracks. Like Jelly will take the stage also, performing their show that mixes theatre, comedy sketches and original music touching on various aspects of Egyptian culture, politics and society. Azhar Park, Salah Salem Road, Cairo Friday 14 September Washing Machine Street Festival in Alexandria at 3pm The street festival will bring graffiti, music, short films, and dance to the streets of Alexandria. The bands scheduled to perform are Krakeeb, Shawara3na, Revolution Records, Puzzle, Ze Khodz, and more. Alex Crew will also breakdance. El-Nasr for Boys School, Alexandria Mashrou El-Mareekh in Darb 1718 at 7pm Mashrou El-Mareekh, a movement dedicated to creative space and promoting self-expression will bring their Open Mic night to Darb 1718 showcasing diverse local talents. This will be a monthly venture at the space on the second Friday of every month. Kasr El Shamee Street, Al-Fakhareen, behind the Hanging Church and Amr Mosque, Cairo Persepolis Film Screening in Sufi Bookstore at 7pm The acclaimed 2007 animation of the story of a young girl during the Iranian revolution. 12 Sayed El-Bakry Street, Zamalek, Cairo Maurice Louca in 100 Copies Music Space at 8pm Maurice Louca, after taking part in Bikya band and Alif Ensemble, started his solo career last year with his first album Garraya, a collection of hypnotic while beat driven electro tracks. 22 Talaat Harb Street, Downtown, Cairo Saturday, 15 September Tok Tok 7 comic book launch in El-Cabina Centre at 7pm The comic book launched a few weeks after the start of the revolution is now in its seventh issue. The night will also see the launch of the fourth issue of "Ninth Art," a comic art publication. 11 San Saba Street, behind cinema Realto, Downtown, Alexandria Opening of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra's new season at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm The Cairo Symphony Orchestra, headed by its new Czech conductor, Jiri Petrdlik, opens the season in Cairo and Alexandria. River Hall, 26 of July Street, Zamalek, Cairo Naseer Shamma in El-Sawy Culturewheel at 8pm The celebrated Iraqi oud player and singer Nasser Shamma is set to perform a selection of his favourite pieces. Wisdom Hall, 26 of July Street, Zamalek, Cairo Sunday, 16 September Arabic Music at the Music Institute at 8pm The Heritage Ensemble for Arab Music will perform at The National Arab Music Institute. The enssemble aims at the revival of Arab music. Arabic Music Institute. 22 Ramsis Street, Downtown, Cairo Omar Khairat at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm The Cairo Opera House announces that Omar Khairat will be live in concert on Sunday, 16 September, and Monday, 17 September. Omar Khairat is an Egyptian composer and pianist whose original compositions bridge contemporary Arab music and Western influences and have attracted a large fanbase in Egypt and the region.
