Hossam Badrawi replaces NDP's Secretary general Safwat El Sherif and Gamal Mubarak

The ruling NDP is in disarray, its topmost leaders, Safwat El Sherif and Gamal Mubark have been expelled, and replaced by reformist Hossam Badrawi, while top leading body resigned en masse
Reformist Hossam Badrawi, replaces Safwat El Sherif, the General Secretary of NDP and Gamal Mubarak the head of the party's policies committee. The new secretary general of the party is seen as a member of the reformist liberal wing of the party. The political bureau of the party resigned earlier.
Badrawi is a member of the board of directors of the NDP and chairs the Business Secretariat. He is also one eight members comprising the Policy Secretariat and chairs its Education Sub-Committee and co-supervises its Health Sub-Committee.
Badrawi is a prominent physician and is a member of several political institutions in Egypt including the Upper Chamber of Egyptian Parliament, member of the Board of Governance of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Member of the Board of Trustees of the Bibliotheca Alexandria, Board Member of the National Human Right Council of Egypt, and chair the Gynecology & Obstetrics department in Cairo University's Medical School.
He graduated from Cairo University in 1974, with an honors degree. He earned his graduate studies during 1979-1983 in Wayne State University-Detroit-Michigan, in the use of scanning electron microscopy for the first time in the research of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Badrawi also received an honorary PhD. in science from Sunderland University in the United Kingdom in 2007.
Badrawi was an elected member of the Egyptian Parliament and chaired the Committee of Education and Scientific Research for five years (2000 to 2005). He has also led the education reform initiatives in Egypt and is considered to be the primary sponsor of education reform throughout the country and has also played a mjore role in developing reform policies in the health sector in Egypt.
Badrawi is also a member of the Supreme Council for Human Rights and chairs the Social Human Rights Committee in the council.
Meanwhile, reports that President Hosni Mubarak had resigned his post as leader of the NDP was later denied by Egyptian state TV.
