Berekum Chelsea coach confident ahead of Zamalek clash Berekum Chelsea coach Hans van der Pluijm voices confidence ahead of scheduled clash with Zamalek in CAF Champions League Group B opener on Saturday
Berekum Chelsea coach Hans van der Pluijm said his team does not fear Africa's big guns, as they wrap up preparations for Saturday's opening Champions League group-stage game against Egypt's Zamalek. Chelsea were drawn in Group B along with Egyptian giants Ahly and Zamalek and TP Mazembe of DR Congo. "They are all former champions and we have a lot of respect for them, but we all got to this stage on merit and so we'll see how it goes from now on," Van der Pluijm told the official CAF website on Wednesday. "My boys must believe in themselves; they must believe that nothing is impossible no matter how strong the opposition appears to be, and they must not let anyone push them around," he said. Chelsea, who are making their maiden appearance in Africa's premier club competition, qualified for the quarter final at the expense of 2008 runners-up Coton Sport following a surprising 2-1 away win in Garoua, after being held to a 0-0 draw at home in the first leg. "Big names don't win football matches, big hearts do; we'll give it our best shot. Many people wrote us off after being held at home by Coton Sport and look what happened in Cameroon," he added. The former Ghana champions were handed a psychological boost before the clash with Zamalek after lifting Ghana's President Cup following a 2-1 win over Asante Kotoko on Saturday.
