Egypt's UK ambassador urges strong turnout via Twitter for presidential poll Twitter-using ambassador encourages Egyptians living in the UK to vote in first post-revolution presidential election
Egypt's ambassador in London, Hatem Seif El-Nasr, has used Twitter to call on Egyptians living in the UK to vote in Egypt's presidential election, the Al-Ahram Arabic-language website reported Friday. El-Nasr's messages on Twitter said it would be simple for voters to cast their ballots at the embassy or through the mail. There are 6,250 people in the UK registered to vote in Egypt's first post-Mubarak presidential election. Ahmed Ragheb, Egypt's assistant foreign minister, confirmed Thursday that Egyptian expats would be able to cast their votes beginning Friday. From an estimated eight to ten million Egyptians living abroad, 586,000 have registered to vote in the presidential ballot. Egypt's first post-Mubarak presidential poll is slated for 23/24 May, with a runoff vote to be held on 16/17 June in the event that no single candidate wins an outright majority. The president will be formally named on 21 June. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/41426.aspx
