NBE appoints ex-central bank chief to head up Sudan operations NBE, Egypt's top public bank, prepares to launch Sudan operations in 3 months, appoints Saber Al-Hassan to top post
The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has appointed Sudanese national Saber Al-Hassan to head up its Sudan operations, which are expected to launch in the coming three months, Egyptian official daily Al-Ahram reported on Wednesday. Al-Hassan previously served as governor of Sudan's central bank for 16 sixteen years, from 1993 to 1996 and from 1998 to 2011. NBE is the first Egyptian bank to operate in Sudan. It is currently in the process of hiring staff and preparing to open its new Khartoum headquarters. NBE in Sudan will focus on facilitating investment between Egypt and its neighbour to the south, said NBE Chairman Tarek Amer, who visited Sudan last week. Last October, the NBE obtained approval from Egypt's central bank to establish a presence in Sudan with founding capital of $50 million. In the same month, the NBE increased its credit lines to Sudan to include $100 million for Sudan's central bank for investment promotion, $50 million for the NBE in Sudan, and $50 million for foreign trade. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/31445.aspx
