Achieving reconciliation between Palestinian factions and restoring political legitimacy in the Gaza Strip would help advance efforts to revive the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks and reach a just solution to the Palestinian issue, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi told President of the World Jewish Congress Ronald Lauder during a meeting in Cairo, according to a statement by presidential spokesman Bassam Radi on Sunday. The meeting, which was also attended by General Intelligence Service Chief Abbas Kamel, tackled the Mideast peace process and the ongoing efforts to resume talks between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, with the aim of reaching a fair solution in accordance with international terms. Last week Egypt announced that it rejects a newly passed Israeli law that defines Israel as "the nation-state of the Jewish people" and rules that only Jews have the right to self-determination in the country, saying the law “solidifies the concept of occupation and apartheid”. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that the new law undermines the chances of achieving peace in the Middle East or reaching a fair solution in the Palestinian issue. Egypt has repeatedly voiced its support for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state.
