Zamalek officially announced the signing of Assiouty Sport's midfielder Mohamed Antar on Sunday as the Whites' fifth winter signing, completing a record deal in domestic transfers. Local reports said Zamalek had paid Assiouty EGP15 million to sign Antar, marking the biggest ever transfer of an Egyptian player in domestic competitions. "I thank Assiouty Sport's management for concluding the deal," Antar was quoted as saying after the signing. "My ambition is to join Egypt's national team as well as participating in the World Cup," the new Zamalek player added. Despite introducing several newly-signed players in last summer's transfer window ahead of the start of the current season, Zamalek's management are looking to strengthen their squad again during the ongoing January transfer window. They recently announced the signing of Etoile Sportive du Sahel's fullback Hamdi Nagguez and FC Masr's defender Mohamed Abdel-Ghany, alongside Maqassa duo striker Nana Poku and midfielder Emad Fathi. Finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League last season, the Cairo-based club introduced several newly-signed players to boost their squad before the start of the current season. "The new signings include Salah Ashour, Ahmed Madbouly, Ahmed Dawoud, Mohamed Ramadan, Abdallah Gomaa, Mohamed El-Shamy, Ahmed Kaboria, Syrian duo Alaa El-Shebly and Moayad El-Aggan, in addition to Kabongo Kasongo, Ben Acheampong and Razak Cisse," Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour announced in August as he revealed the squad. The Cairo giants lie fifth on the league table with 32 points, 16 behind leaders Ahly.
