Four Palestinians detained, clashes erupt in West Bank following Jerusalem attack
Published in Ahram Online on 17 - 06 - 2017

Clashes erupted on Saturday between Palestinian residents of the West Bank village of Deir Abu Mishal and Israeli soldiers, who have put the village under siege in response to a Friday shooting and stabbing attack on Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem that killed one Israeli officer and injured another, village sources told Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Residents told WAFA that Israeli forces have surrounded Deir Abu Mishal, setting up a metal gate at the entrance of the village and preventing residents from leaving or entering.
Israeli forces have also seized 40 cars belonging to the residents and distributed leaflets threatening the villagers with harsh punitive measures, according to WAFA.
The Israeli occupation forces have also detained three Palestinians in the West Bank's Hebron, as well as a 23-year-old who allegedly attempted to carry out a stabbing attack on an Israeli settler near the illegal Israeli settlement of Gush Etzion to the south of Bethlehem, WAFA said.
The militant group Daesh took responsibility for the Friday attack on Israeli forces in Jerusalem, though both Palestinian factions and Israeli police have rejected this claim.
WAFA has identified three Palestinian men – Bara Ibrahim Atta, 18, Usama Ahmad Atta, 19, and Adel Ankoush, 18 – as the Jerusalem attackers, who were shot dead by Israeli forces outside Jerusalem's Old City wall.
Hamas and the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said on Friday that the three attackers were members of there groups, Reuters reported.
Israeli police said on Friday that the attackers were from Palestinian cities in the occupied West Bank; two from Ramallah and one from Hebron.
