Ethiopia rout Somalia to advance in World Cup qualifiers Ethiopia crush Somalia 5-0 to advance to the main African qualifying phase for the 2014 World Cup
Ethiopia reached the group stage of the African World Cup qualifiers after thrashing Somalia 5-0 in Addis Ababa on Wednesday. Omod Okwury needed just five minutes to fire the hosts in front before Shimelis Bekele scored twice in three second-half minutes to put the result beyond doubt. Getaneh Kebede notched a late brace to give Ethiopia a 5-0 aggregate victory after they were held to a surprise goalless draw by Somalia in the first leg, which was played in Djibouti because of the security situation in troubled Somali capital Mogadishu. Ethiopia have now booked a place in Group A of the second round along with South Africa, Botswana and Central African Republic.
