Art Alert: Cairo's Zawya to screen Farhadi's The Salesman
Published in Ahram Online on 16 - 01 - 2017

Zawya will screen the award-winning Iranian film The Salesman starting on 18 January.
The Salesman is the latest film by the internationally acclaimed Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, who also wrote and produced the film.
It tells the story of a high school teacher who seeks revenge against the man who attacked his wife in their apartment. The couple tries to go on with their life after the incident, notably playing in Arthur Miller's 'Death of a Salesman' at a local theatre.
The film stars Shahab Hosseini and Taraneh Alidoosti.
The Salesman won the award for Best Screenplay and the Best Actor Award for Hosseini at Cannes Film Festival in 2016. It also won the Satellite Award for Best Foreign Language Film given by the International Press Academy.
It was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2017 Golden Globes.
Farhadi is one of the foremost Iranian directors of his generation. His film A Separation won Best Foreign Film at the 2012 Oscars. The film also won a Golden Globe and the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in the same year.
"His four films — A Separation, About Elly, Fireworks Wednesdays and Beautiful City — pose questions relating to morality in their abstract sense. Even after watching the films and discussing them, the viewer is still filled with questions and doubts," Manna Taher writes in her profile of Farhadi for Ahram Online.
Programme:
The Salesman will screen starting Wednesday 18 January at: 12pm, 2.30pm, 5pm, 7.30pm, and 10pm, and will run for a week.
Zawya, behind Odeon Cinema, 4 Abdel Hamid Said, off Talaat Harb St, Downtown, Cairo
