Iranian Asghar Farhadi's The Salesman nominated to Golden Globe's for Best Foreign Language Film
Published in Ahram Online on 13 - 12 - 2016

Asghar Farhadi's The Salesman was given a nod after being nominated in the category of Best Foreign Language Film's for the 2017 Golden Globe awards for movies and television.
Announced on Monday, other nominees in the same category include Divines (France), Elle (France), Neruda (Chile) and Toni Erdman (Germany.)
The Salesman centres around a couple who find their middle class intellectual life ripped apart after the wife is assaulted in her home in Tehran. They try to go on, notably playing in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman at a local theatre.
Last May, Farhadi won the Best Screenplay award for 'The Salesman' at the Cannes Film Festival while Iranian star Shahab Hosseini won the Best Actor award for his role in the same film.
Farhadi is one of the foremost Iranian directors of his generation. His film A Separation won Best Foreign Film at the 2012 Oscars. The film also won a Golden Globe and the Golden Bear at the Berlinale in the same year.
"Farhadi, like his contemporaries Panahi and Kioarstami, does not feed off Western stereotypes of Iranians. He treads lightly on Iran's social issues; they are never the main issues in the film, they are merely a backdrop and sometimes a catalyst to his domestic dramas," writes Menna Taher in her profile of Farhadi published in Ahram Online in 2012.
"His four films — A Separation, About Elly, Fireworks Wednesdays and Beautiful City — pose questions relating to morality in their abstract sense. “Even after watching the films and discussing them, the viewer is still filled with questions and doubts," Taher writes.
In an interview for Reuters, Farhadi commented on his newest film The Salesman by saying it is yet another look into the depths of human relations.
"The oldest, the most ancient relationship in human history is the couple's relationship, the love relationship between a man and a woman," Farhadi said before the film's premiere in Cannes.
According to Reuters, the upcoming Golden Globes, organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be handed out at a gala dinner hosted by Jimmy Fallon in Beverly Hills on 8 January 2017.
